Steps of love – episode 50 by Ngozi Lovelyn
As she turned to leave, Victor cut in; “Not so fast”
And Amanda quickly turned, facing Victor who was standing opposite her, looking furious.
“I will be the most foolish man on earth if I let my enemy live freely, knowing that my life is in constant danger”
“Victor, I am not your enemy. I have never been anyone’s enemy” Amanda rejected being his enemy
“Officer, please arrest her” Victor said, pointing Amanda
And shocked Amanda turned, facing the 3 policemen Victor called to arrest her.
“You are under arrest for attempted murder and intent to kill” One of the policemen announced
Amanda then sighed deeply and extended her hands with zero effort.
And then looked directly, at Victor’s eyes: “I said, I am innocent, but if you think this is the right thing to do, then I have no objection. I only hope that, it doesn’t get too late when the truth finally unveils” she said, amidst tears.
But Victor wasn’t moved. He thought, she was only acting. The love he once had for Amanda was no more. Hatred, anger, disgust pushed it off from it’s former place.
And Amanda’s hands were handcuffed by one of the policemen..
“You have a right to remain silent. Anything you do or say, can bd used against you in a court of law.
And she was taken away, while Victor looked on.
As they reached the exit, Amanda turned to see Victor’s facial reaction, to know if he was comfortable with her arrest, but was sad to see him looking away.
And finally, they left the building.
Ifunanya was highly grateful to God for granting her a second chance. She then reminisced how concerned Amanda was when she was struggling for life, and how she begged her to live, ensuring that she survives.
“Despite everything I did to her, she still made sure that I live.” Tears dropped
She then started remembering their good friendship days. How close they were.
“We were like sisters, the only best friend I had, but everything changed after Victor came into our lives again. I missed you Amanda and I’m sorry for everything. Don’t worry, I will make it upto you. I am going to confess everything. I promise”
The nurses had finished attending to Ifunanya and Victor was permitted to see her.
The moment he entered the room, Ifunanya expected to see Amanda with him, but she was nowhere to be found.
Victor who was feeling all grateful to her for saving his life, found his feets walking slowly, observing Ifunanya’s health status, checking whether the poison did terrible damage on her, if she was still the same Ifunanya or not.
“Where is Amanda?” Ifunanya asked.
And Victor quickly rushed to her bedside, ignoring the question, feeling relieved that she was ok. He then asked her how she was feeling.
“I will live” she said and continued: “Thank you so much Victor, may God bless you for me” She appreciated
“No, I should be the one thanking you. It should have been me, lying dead on this bed, but you took my place. I don’t know what good I did to deserve this, but I want you to know that, I will forever be in your debt, my Love”
“My Love?” Ifunanya asked, trying to understand what she heard.
“Yes Baby, I will love you now and forever. As soon as you are discharged from here, we are planning our wedding. No time to waste. I don’t need any soothsayer to tell me that, you are my better half I have been searching for years”
Do you think Ifunanya will still confess after hearing this?
