Mama why season 2 episode 3 by Ngozi Lovelyn
Ogechi didn’t know when those words dropped out of her mouth.
When she saw that her mouth made way for them to fall, she then released herself and allowed them flow freely.
She felt glad that she finally did, but her tension was very high on how Ndubuisi would react.
Her heart continued beating fast, seeing the way he pulled over.
Ndubuisi remained still, breathing hard, controlling his anger.
He wasn’t blaming Ogechi much, the only person he kept blaming was himself. He shouldn’t have listened to his mother by going ahead with marrying Ogechi.
Ogechi remained nervously quiet, panicking in her heart, waiting for his next reaction.
Ndubuisi was able to control himself and continued with their journey to the village.
Ndubuisi’s bad mood was scaring Ogechi, but the fact he kept silent got her terrified the more.
When they got to their town, Ndubuisi diverted to the route that leads to Ogechi’s family house and that was when it fell on her that, her marriage was over.
She burst into tears, trying to force Ndubuisi to stop the car, before reaching her family house.
In a loud tearing voice, she strongly held Ndubuisi’s hand, disrupting his control of the steering, demanding him to tell her what was going on and also requested him to listen to her own side of the story.
“I know that I should have opened up to you, but you got the whole thing complicated by getting those women arrested, and that was why I lost the mouth to tell you what was going on. Listen to me, I am not a thief, I am never a thief. I have never taken anything that does not belong to me, you can ask my parents. This ugly behaviour started right after we came back to the village. I kept telling you that, there is something or someone fighting against our marriage. I love you my husband, I…”
“Do not call me that!” Ndubuisi cut in, as his voice roared like thunder in Ogechi’s ears
“I can’t be a husband to any low life illiterate. And this your crocodile tears, can you stop them? They are irritating. And do not try to stop this car again, otherwise, you won’t like what will come your way. I think I have restrained myself enough”
Ogechi burst into more tears. She started imagining a world without Ndubuisi and how sad it would be for her.
She yearned for a divine intervention.
She kept tearing down as Ndubuisi entered their compound.
Mama Ogechi ran out, rejoiced seeing Ndubuisi’s car driving into the compound, she started walking to their direction, looking cheerful, not knowing that, the sky was no longer blue for her daughter.
As soon as Ndubuisi stopped, Ogechi rushed out, and ran to her mother, with tears rushing down freely.
And her heart flipped, wondering what the problem could be.
He held onto Ogechi who fell into her arms. She tried forcing her to raise her head, so she could understand what was going on.
She then fixed a look on Ndubuisi who brought out Ogechi’s bag from the car and threw it on their legs.
“Mama Ogechi, this is your daughter, I brought her back in one piece. I am done with her. She can continue her ridiculous life in her father’s house” he said
Oh hearing that, Ogechi fell to his feet, begging, crying that, she wasn’t her true self when all those things were happening. That she was sure that, someone was somewhere controlling her into stealing those things.
But he kicked her hard, spat on her and warned her never to set foot in his life again
As he tried to leave, Mama Ogechi ran and hold him
“My inlaw, you can’t return my daughter without first, telling me what she has committed. Don’t you think there’s a misunderstanding some where?”
And then, he brought out his phone and showed her the video of Ogechi stealing from the supermarket.
And Mama Ogechi got weak, covering her mouth in shock.
Ogechi was also shocked. She couldn’t believe that, such secret could come to Ndubuisi’s knowledge.
“Please, don’t try begging me to take her back. I don’t know how much I’m going to endure this humiliation. Good thing is that, not everybody knows her much in the city as my wife. I should have returned her the first day I learnt that your family lied your ways into my life by lying she finished her tertiary education. Well, I’ve come to my senses now, I am not marrying again” He said, with all seriousness and bitterness showing on his face as he zoomed off.
Ogechi remained motionless, watching her husband, the man she swore to love and cherish for the rest of her life driving away from her life.
And the world turned dark right in the middle of the day.
