When Ndubuisi got home, he sat on his chair, thinking over the whole thing. He then suggested giving himself some days to forget about Ogechi and start making plans to marrying the lady he wanted to marry before.
4 months had passed, Ndubuisi had already forgotten everything about Ogechi and was ready to marry Cherry.
Ogechi was still learning to forget him, but was finding it very difficult to.
For 4 months, she never stolen again and that proved to her parents that, she was saying the truth.
And they started wondering who it was that fought against her short marriage.
She tried getting across to Ndubuisi, calling him, sending him text messages that, the stealing spirit had left her. That she had never stolen again, but Ndubuisi already moved on with his life.
Ndubuisi doesn’t answer her calls. The first time she called him with her new mobile line, Ndubuisi answered, but before she could introduce her self, he disconnected it after identifying her voice. He already warned her never to call him again. Ogechi still never gave up.
She still took Ndubuisi as her husband and believing in God that, he would hear her prayers one day.
There was a time she went and gather some firewood and took them to Okwuchi. Okwuchi wasn’t around, but she dropped them and left.
When Okwuchi got home, she saw the bundle of firewood and started wondering who dropped them. None of the neighbours agreed they were the ones who did it.
There was also another day Okwuchi went to sell palm oil in the market and Ogechi entered the house and cleaned everywhere and left before Okwuchi returned. She intentionally waited for the day of their popular town market day to clean the house, so that Okwuchi won’t be at home. She also dropped another bundle of firewood again.
When Okwuchi got back, she was shocked to see the whole house cleaned and also saw another firewood. It then fell on her brain that, it was Ogechi.
Because, it was only a family member could know where they hide their keys. She then sat, remembering everything that happened and how she fought against her.
“And now see, despite all my efforts to seize control, Ndubuisi is about ending up with a city girl. What’s that her name again? Cherry. Even the first day Ndubuisi brought her here, she was wearing that tight trouser that was showing her big bumbum. That girl is not decent at all. She doesn’t even mind what her soon to be mother inlaw would say. Ogechi will even be far better than her. If only we could see the future, I would have managed Ogechi instead of that Cherry of a girl” She said in sheer regret, quietly standing up from where she was sitting, as she held her aching waist to support her movement as she entered her room.
Despite Okwuchi’s efforts to prevent Ndubuisi from marrying Cherry, Ndubuisi was firmly adamant. He got his mind made up and won’t be making the mistake he made before.
They fixed the date of their traditional wedding and this news made Ogechi realised that, it was over and her wounds got reopened again. She was thinking that, Ndubuisi was taking his time to forgive her, not knowing that, he was done for good.
She then started looking for an opportunity to meet with Ndubuisi face to face. She hoped that, if Ndubuisi sees her again, perhaps, he could forgive her and then forget about remarrying.
She doesn’t know his address in the city and how to locate him. She wasn’t able to capture the location the time she was married to him. If they had used public transport, it would have been easier for her. But since Ndubuisi was the one who was conveying her from village to house and from house to village, she wasn’t opportune to capture the location.
She then discused with her mother to help her get someone who may know Ndubuisi and how to locate him in the city.
And the mother agreed and also gave her some piece of advice. 2 days later, Ogechi was in front of Ndubuisi’s flat, knocking on his door, with tension in her heart on how he would react if he sees her, but Ndubuisi wasn’t the one who answered the door.
