Mama why season 2 episode 7 by Ngozi Lovelyn
Ogechi knocked and then waited. She was carrying her bag which had few of her things.
She was shaking, sweating but was ready to stand however Ndubuisi would react. But Ndubuisi wasn’t the one who opened the door. Cherry did.
“And who are you?” Cherry asked without even throwing a greeting first.
“She is already living with him? I thought they are yet to get married? Oh Lord, what am I going to do now?” Ogechi quickly said in her heart, concluding that the lady was Ndubuisi’s new fiancee.
She then greeted her.
“Good afternoon” she stammered
“Who are you?” Cherry repeated
She wasn’t interested in her greetings
“Please, is Mr Nduka around?”She gently asked
“Are you crazy or something? I asked who you are and you are asking if my husband is around, are you Ok?” Cherry asked in harsh angry tone
And Ogechi was getting off balance. The way Cherry was behaving was making it difficult for her to explain who she was and what she was doing there. She then, said the next thing that came to her mind.
“I am Ebere, his cousin.”
And Cherry gave her a thorough look, from head to toe and then asked if Ndubuisi knew she was coming and she said, No.
“And you are here? How can you come to someone’s house without informing them? Call him on phone and tell him you are here.”
And Ogechi wasn’t expecting such. Ndubuisi doesn’t answer her calls, so calling him on phone would make Cherry realise she was lying.
“Are my words not clear enough, I said call him on phone!” Cherry who was already getting annoyed with Ogechi’s presence lashed
“Why is she so upset? Or is this the way she behaves? And with the way she is reacting, there is no way I can reason with her”
Ogechi was still in her mind when Cherry went inside and slammed the door to her face. And she was startled.
She tried to knock again, but it wasn’t necessary. So she went downstairs and hanged somewhere, waiting for when Ndubuisi would come back.
Ndubuisi was in his working place when his rang and it was Cherry.
“Hello baby” he said
And Cherry narrated to him, her encounter with the girl who claimed to be his cousin, giving her name as Ebere.
And Ndubuisi thought hard, but the name didn’t ring a bell.
“I don’t have any cousin with such name. Where is the person now?”
“I sent her away.” Cherry replied
Ndubuisi said Ok as they started discussing another thing.
When Ndubuisi came back in the evening, as he was about climbing the stairs, he heard a very soft tone who called his name from behind. The voice sounded like that of Ogechi’s and he swiftly turned, facing Ogechi who was just standing looking at him kindly.
Ndubuisi had different feelings running through him, but he couldn’t decipher their meanings at that moment.
He saw Ogechi, but he wasn’t feeling odd like he thought he would if their path ever crossed. He was just looking at her, nurturing different feelings.
When he closed his eyes to understand what he was feeling, be discovered that, it wasn’t anger, but the feeling of someone who missed someone very close to his heart.
It had never occurred to him that, he missed Ogechi, because after he dropped her at her father’s house, he blocked his mind off from anything that concerned her. But inside that his mind, he never knew that, Ogechi was being missed.
“Like I told you, I am not a thief and has never been. The manipulations stopped immediately after the person saw that, their mission has been accomplished” She tried to make Ndubuisi understand that the stealing spirit had left her, but Ndubuisi was busy, trying to understand his mood.
“What are you doing here?” he asked in a tone that wasn’t sounding so warm. He doesn’t want to show her that, he missed her, even for a little
And Ogechi’s eyes got teary, “I heard you are about marrying another woman, so I decided to visit, so we can atleast, see for one more time, to enable you understand if that is what you really want.” She said, knitting her fingers
And Ndubuisi continued looking at her without even knowing what to reply her.
