Adamma was caught up in her dream, scampering for safety as she was being pursued by an angry looking woman who was carrying a moderate sized wood on her right hand, ready to smash Adamma’s head with it.
While lying on the bed, as her head convulsed, struggling to wake up
from the nightmare, her only daughter Uzoma was sleeping soundly beside her.
In the second room was Ifeoma, the beautiful innocent orphan who was also Adamma’s niece.
It was 3am in the night as the house entertained the slight snoring of the occupants except Adamma who was still being pursued by the mean and angry looking woman.
As the woman was getting closer, closing in on her, she screamed out after realising there wasn’t much escape route for her again.
And just then, she jumped up from sleep, breathing heavily and sweating profusely.
She swift her neck towards her daughter, Uzoma and met her sleeping calmy and peacefully.
Her eyes raced the room, as fears circulated her face.
Still in the other room, Ifeoma was still having a very good night rest.
It was a bright morning in the village of Umuawuru as Adamma was outside her compound, washing her face.
Ifeoma was busy in the kitchen, washing plates, while Uzoma was busy in the sitting room, pressing her phone.
It was a moderate village house Adamma’s husband built before bidding his final farewell to the world after suffering a brief illness.
While still washing her face, Adamma paused, after she was interrupted by footsteps she heard coming behind her.
It sounded strange, as she stopped to concentrate on the sound of the step.
The footsteps continued ascending, without facing any interruption.
And just then, she turned and was facing a very handsome looking young man who greeted him, and explained that he had been knocking, but no one answered him.
But Adamma scanned him from head to toe, trying to understand who he was, while the young man stood, unsettled, as his hand reached his head, scratching his sudden itching head and arm.
He also started looking at himself, to know why Adamma was giving him such obvious uncomfortable look. He also checked his nails, and found them trimmed. He got more uncomfortable, standing, waiting for Adamma to offer him a seat.
While still washing plate in the kitchen, humming her favourite song, Ifeoma was interrupted by Uzoma who was always mean to her.
“You have a visitor” Uzoma said, making Ifeoma to brace her a sudden look, because it was awkward and unexpected for her to be graced with a visitor. She was still trying to understand who it could be, when Uzoma added.
“A male visitor. A male one at that and he has come to marry you”
And Ifeoma scoffed, giving a spontaneous calm smile.
Because, the whole thing was sounding strange to her.
Uzoma continued, “Listen, I wanted to react that you will be getting married before me, but this man is poor. Stinking poor. Your suffering continues my dear, I bet you, it will”
But Ifeoma ignored her, trying to leave the kitchen.
“Hei….where do you think you are going?” she interrupted Ifeoma who was about leaving, to attend to her visitor
“But you said, I have a visitor? Allow me to go and see him”
“Next time you walk out on me, while I’m still talking, you will see what I will do to you. Better do and come and finish up this plate. Lazy thing”
Ifeoma ignored her, she left to answer her visitor…. do not stop reading, see the next episode below
